Haier Carrier participated in the construction of the National Speed Skating Oval 's CO2 transcritical ice making system——Full Ice Speed Skating Oval

2020-02-20

Qingdao Haier Carrier Refrigeration Equipment Co., Ltd., as a member of the consortium, won the bid for the transcritical CO2 ice making system of the National Speed Skating Oval project. As the supplier of ice making system equipment, Carrier Commercial Refrigeration System’s technology will be applied to the ice making system of the National Speed Skating Oval “Ice Ribbon”, the speed skating competition venue. The venue’s ice-making system consists of Carrier CO2 racks with 4 MW max cooling capacity running on the natural refrigerant CO2, which has a very low Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 1. The modularized semi-industrial system uses Carrier’s state-of-the-art multi-climate transcritical CO2 technology to achieve the best energy efficiency possible. The "ice ribbon" is designed with full ice surface, covering an area of about 12000 square meters, almost equal to the size of a track and field. Through the divisional control of the ice surface, it can not only meet the competitive requirements of five major categories of ice sports such as speed skating, short track skating, figure skating, curling, and ice hockey. Besides, it can also implement a wide range of national fitness activities after game so as to accelerate the construction of a sports power.

According to the report of Beijing News Agency, the National Speed Skating Oval first adopted the CO2 transcritical ice making technology in the history of the Olympic Games. It is the most environmentally friendly ice making technology in the world with the carbon emission close to zero, and it is also the most advanced ice making technology which can control ice temperature difference within 0.5 degrees. In the Olympic Games, it can provide the highest standard and the best venue conditions for athletes to create excellent results; in the post-Olympic operation, it can save nearly 2 million kWh of electricity each year, which will lay a good foundation for the long-term sustainable development of the venue.
